I have been very busy lately launching our site so have had little time for catching up with what’s happening in the news. Even though I couldn’t have avoided the rumblings and murmerings about An Bord Snip I decided to give myself 5 minutes to catch up with this issue properly. Obviously any news relating to cutbacks is relevant and worrying to SaveAFewBob.ie readers.
The last I heard of The Big Snip was when a certain RTE 2 radio presenter decided to get a vasectomy done many years ago and that sounded painful. So I braced myself for what my research into this Government snip thing might entail.
First up, I wondered what Wikipedia might have to say on the matter:
“ An Bord Snip is the colloquial, and humorous, term for Irish government cost-cutting boards charged with reducing expenditure in the public sector”
Oh good…humorous. It can’t be all bad. However, not really find the information which I was looking for, I decided to cut to the chase and contact the Government Publications Office. A very helpful gentleman, Tom, informed me that there were two official versions of An Bord Snip recommendations on the site (God forbid I shortchange myself by clicking on the 84 page summary). So I downloaded this gem….

…interesting findings and a riveting read I’m sure. However, with 224 pages involved, and a business to get off the ground, I decided there wasn’t enough time to digest these findings. My 5 minute time- out was coming to a close. One last quick search yielded this report from The Sunday Tribune:
However, on spotting that they had got Irish Death Notices to sponsor their report, I realised that maybe this Bord snip matter was no laughing matter after all.
Perhaps, I should retain my focus ….helping Irish consumers obtain great value for everyday goods and services. Okay, so that will be our focus. Watch this space!
